Philip Johns

Evolutionary biologist

Why you should listen

Philip Johns is an evolutionary biologist and an entomologist by training. He studies animal behavior, focusing on species like spiders, mantises, stalk-eyed flies, scorpions and otters. He’s explored how genetics and genomics influence traits and social behaviors in these animals. After moving to Singapore to help launch Yale-NUS College, he became captivated by local wildlife and worked with students and nature enthusiasts on research. He envisions a future where cities are rich with wildlife and people work together to study and appreciate animals.
