Why you should listen

John Gottman is the cofounder of the Gottman Institute, where he works with his collaborator and wife Julie Gottman to restore and strengthen couples' relationships. Using mathematical methods and models, the pair study relationships using a combination of questionnaires, interviews, observational methods and physiology, helping people avoid what they call "disaster relationships." A clinical psychologist with a mathematics background, Gottman also cofounded a company looking to integrate psychology with math and AI.
